MAT 215 - Finite Mathematics

This course emphasized mathematical modeling and decision making in the fields of business, economics, social science, and non-physical sciences. Topics include the mathematics of finance, matrices, linear programming, and probability. Data description and probability distributions are optional topics. Prerequisite: MAT-108 or equivalent

Course Objectives:  Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to

  1. Linear and Quadratic Functions.
  2. Polynomial and Rational Functions.
  3. Exponential and Logarithmic Functions.
  4. Simple and compound interest.
  5. Future and Present Value of an Annuity.
  6. Systems of Linear Equations.
  7. Matrices.
  8. Systems of Linear Inequalities
  9. Linear programming – geometric approach.
  10. Simplex method.
  11. The Dual – Minimization.
  12. Max and Min with mixed constraints.
  13. Counting Techniques.
  14. Introduction to Probability.
  15. Bayes’ Theorem.
  16. Probability distribution, expected value.
  17. Graphing data.
  18. Measures of Central Tendency.
  19. Measures of Dispersion.
  20. Bernoulli Distribution.
  21. Normal Distribution.
